Live: Four

Here is the fourth live recording from my Fringe Festival show at Conduit Arts, and the last installment for Momentum, perhaps just for now or perhaps for good. Thank you to everyone who came along to the shows, and for the interesting and spontaneous Q&A sessions that followed.

This really is a community project and I couldn't have done any of it without so much ongoing feedback and interaction with my audience. Everyone has been incredibly supportive, and generous with their time and sound recordings.

I will still accept contributions in the form of recordings - they can be sent to natgrantmusic@gmail.com.

Live: Three

I ventured out again today in search of sounds that are part of my everyday life in Melbourne. I recorded baristas making coffees and stacking saucers, kids splashing around in the Brunswick Baths, and a host of sounds in Princess Park, including squeaky swing sets, people jogging along a sandy path, and a water fountain.

There's one more live show! At 6pm tomorrow - then I think I need to put the practical side of Momentum to bed for a little while so I can write my thesis, about all the things I've learnt throughout this project.

Live: Two

Day/night two of Melbourne Fringe, and I had a really great time again - recording, performing and talking about my work. Today I went out on the tram and recorded traffic/traffic and pedestrian lights/trams/ticket machines. Then it was off to the Queen Victorian Market where I captured some of the vendors spruiking their fruits and veg, plus some trolleys and street sweepers. Then I happened upon some church bells while recording a train pulling out of Brunswick station on my way home.

There are two more live shows and I'll be out again recording/gallivanting tomorrow (then performing at 6pm at Conduit Arts).

Live: One

It was so exciting to do the first of four Momentum: live performances tonight. There are three more and there's more information here if you'd like to come along.

I spent today finding interesting sounds around Brunswick and recording and photographing things. In the mix are some friends' pets (birds and cats) being fed and being chirpy, a toy glockenspiel, wheelie bins, traffic, kids playing footy, door knobs, knockers and letter slots, plus a metronome and a few other miscellaneous things i found in my studio.

Then tonight I performed live using these sounds and messing/manipulating them along the way. The next three days will follow a similar format of recording and performing, though I may keep some of the sounds for a couple of nights, but each performance will be completely different.
